Invoice software for freelancers and consultants
Solo billing has an awkward shape: a handful of invoices a month, most clients in other states, expenses you keep forgetting to record, and a subscription that costs more than the invoices are worth. BillBook is built for exactly that shape — ₹299 once, running on your own machine.
Service invoices, not shop bills
Each line item takes a description, an HSN/SAC code, quantity, rate, discount and its own GST rate — so "Design retainer — September, SAC 998391" behaves properly instead of being forced into a product row. Taxable value, tax and total recalculate as you type.

Out-of-state clients get IGST automatically
Most freelance work is interstate: you are in one state, the client is in another. Save each client's state and GSTIN once; when the place of supply differs from your own state, BillBook charges IGST, and when it matches it splits CGST and SGST. The invoice PDF prints the breakup either way.
Use the IGST calculator if you just want to sanity-check a number before quoting.
Expenses you can actually claim
Laptop, software subscriptions, internet, co-working, travel — enter the total bill amount and the GST rate, and BillBook works out the taxable value and the input GST. The dashboard then shows net GST payable as output tax minus input credit, so you know roughly what you owe before you talk to your CA.

Photograph a receipt and use Scan Receipt to pre-fill the form with bundled local OCR — then check the amount before saving, because OCR accuracy depends on the photo.
Chasing payments without a spreadsheet
Mark each invoice Paid, Partial or Unpaid with the amount actually received. The dashboard adds up outstanding money across unpaid and partial invoices, and the invoice list filters by status, client and date range — which is usually all a solo practice needs to know who to follow up with this week.
Financial years stay separate
Every invoice records its financial year and you can switch the FY view, so last year's numbers don't blur into this year's at filing time. Your invoice prefix and starting number are yours to set, so you can continue an existing series.
What to know before you buy
- • Data is saved in your browser on one device; there is no sync and no cloud copy.
- • Export a JSON backup regularly — that file is your recovery plan.
- • BillBook does not file GST returns and isn't connected to the GST portal.
- • Voice Mode depends on your browser's speech recognition and may need internet.
- • It's a single-user tool — no team logins or shared access.
GST rates and rules change. Verify current rules with official government sources or your CA before filing.
